(The Post News)– Coco Gauff eased into her fifth consecutive French Open quarterfinal on Monday, dispatching Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 7-5 in just 82 minutes.
Gauff, 21, will next face fellow American and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys in an all-American clash on Wednesday. Her 15 victories on clay this season are tied for the most alongside Elina Svitolina, another contender still in the draw at Roland Garros.
Reflecting on her progress, Gauff said she was pleased to be back in the quarters and proud of her performance, hoping to maintain momentum through the tournament. She credits her confidence and resilience as key to her clay-court success, noting that her ability to fight back regardless of the score has carried her through tough matches in the past weeks.
She reached the finals in both Madrid and Rome last month and hopes to go one better in Paris after finishing runner-up there in 2022 to Iga Swiatek. Gauff acknowledged that previous lessons have helped her stay focused and composed, even in challenging moments.
Now more seasoned and composed, Gauff believes her growth as a player is showing in her consistent deep runs, adding that each match is helping her fine-tune the small details needed to push further.
