(The Post News)– Banyana Banyana were crowned champions of the Three Nations Series after defeating Botswana 3–2 and Zambia 2–0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium, finishing the tournament unbeaten with five goals scored and just two conceded.
The tournament, held from 28 May to 3 June, served as vital preparation for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers. Despite dealing with a flu outbreak in camp, the team delivered disciplined performances, with stand-in captain Lebohang Ramalepe leading by example.
Ramalepe admitted the match against Zambia was tough due to illness in the squad but praised the team’s resilience and unity. She noted how well the group supported each other, saying the team’s long-standing chemistry helped them push through and secure the win.
She also commended the presence of fans at the stadium, especially young supporters, saying it showed the team’s impact and helped boost morale.
Coach Desiree Ellis was full of praise for the tactical discipline and depth displayed across the matches. She highlighted the team’s pressing, quick ball movement, and ability to execute the game plan effectively. Key players like Bambanani Mbane, Karabo Dhlamini, and Refiloe Jane made solid returns from injury, while Bongeka Gamede impressed with a stunning free kick.
Ellis used the opportunity to test new combinations, emphasising the importance of versatility with a leaner squad for WAFCON.
