(The Post News)– Toronto police are investigating a shooting that took place in the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood on Tuesday evening, resulting in one fatality and five injuries.
The incident occurred near Flemington and Zachary Roads, where officers responded quickly and established a command post to coordinate the ongoing investigation. Toronto police say emergency services responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 8:30 p.m. near Flemington and Zachary Roads, in the area of Ranee Avenue and Allen Road.
The police also confirmed that one man was pronounced dead at the scene—five others were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, though their conditions have not yet been released. However, the police have not yet shared details about any potential suspects or what may have led to the shooting.
Authorities have increased security in the area as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Meanwhile, speaking to the Toronto Star, paramedics said the victims range in age from 18 to 40 and confirmed that five are men and one is a woman. The situation is “evolving”, paramedics added.
In a social media post, Mayor Olivia Chow expressed her concern for those affected and extended her gratitude to the first responders at the scene. Chow said she was “disturbed” by the incident and confirmed that her office is in contact with police and the local councillor Deputy Mayor Mike Colle as the investigation unfolds.
