(The Post News)- Cristiano Ronaldo led Portugal to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Germany on Wednesday night at the Allianz Arena, booking their place in Sunday’s final against either Spain or France. Germany had looked strong in the first half, dominating possession and creating chances through players like Wirtz and Pavlovic. Wirtz eventually broke the deadlock after linking up well with Joshua Kimmich, and although Portugal protested for offside, VAR confirmed the goal.
Portugal remained steadfast despite the Germans’ persistent pressure. The game changed course when Conceicao’s lone thunderbolt halfway through the second half gave the visitors new hope. A few minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo was picked out by Nuno Mendes with a deft ball, and the Al Nassr star scored with ease to give Portugal the lead.
Portugal stayed strong despite a barrage of late German attempts, including one from Adeyemi that struck the post. As tensions rose, Wirtz, Dias, and Fullkrug were issued yellow cards after a scuffle. Ultimately, however, Roberto Martinez’s team emerged victorious, their sights now firmly fixed on the matchup on Sunday.
