MacG's fan base continues to grow rise
(The Post News)- Just over a month ago, Macgyver “MacG” Mukwevho sparked outrage across the country in an episode of “Podcast and Chill” that aired earlier last month, where he made comments about media personality, Minnie Dlamini, having an ‘unpleasant smell’ as being the reason why she cannot “keep a man”. Although his controversial statement ignited debates, his fan base continues to grow on YouTube.
MacG’s “Podcast and Chill” channel is known for frequently sharing bold and often offensive remarks and getting away with it with just a slap to the wrist. However, when he called Dlamini’s genitals ‘smelly’, he faced the consequences, even after he apologized and called out to Dlamini to ‘squash the drama’. In response to his distasteful comments, Dlamini served MacG with legal papers summoning him to court for defamation. In addition, DSTV’s digital distribution partner, Leading Edge Growth’s CEO Lufuo Maliavusa, confirmed with TimesLive that their contract with MacG got discontinued. Maliavusa went on to say that their aim is to “keep their content slate dynamic”, and apparently “Podcast and Chill” no longer aligns with their brand.
MacG was reported to be “unmoved” about his podcast being dropped, and it seems like he has nothing to worry about because “Podcast and Chill” continues to grow on YouTube. In the last week of May, between the 26th and 31st, the “Podcast and Chill” network stood at approximately 1.59 million subscribers, with an estimated amount of 374 million views. As of today, the channel stands at 1.6 million subscribers with an estimated amount of 375.8 million views. This means that in the last month, MacG’s subscribers and view count increased by 0.63% and 0.45%, which highlights steady growth.Big brands may have an issue with MacG’s controversial views and opinions, but his fans seemingly love it- and as long as his fans love it, he loves it.
