(The Post News)– Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Gauteng secretary Alco Ngobese is recovering from the hospital after surviving an assassination attempt on Saturday, 31 May 2025.
Speaking from a hospital bed, Ngobese explained that they were a group attending the inaugural of the IFP branch at Buyafuthi hostel in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, when an unknown man opened fire.
Ngobese, who has just moved to a private hospital in fear that the criminals may return to finish him off, said he was shot in the leg, and as the men came closer to them, he was then grazed by a bullet on his forehead and had to play dead. According to him, he thought he was going to die when the incident occurred.
The attack is believed to be politically motivated; however, Ngobese denied the claims, saying that they currently do not have any internal tensions in the organization, adding that the program they hosted did not have any objections. Ngobese said he is hopeful that law authorities will get to the bottom of this.
Meanwhile two suspects in Khethamabala Petros Sithole’s (68) murder case, Member of Parliament and party deputy chief whip of the IFP, are expected to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court next week for a bail hearing. Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said more arrests are imminent in connection with the murder, adding that a task team has been established.
