(The Post News)- A tragic accident has left Cape Town resident reeling after an unidentified man fell from the rooftop of Hotel Sky on Monday Afternoon. The incident, believed to be a possible suicide, took place on Lower Long Street, between Walter Sisulu Avenue and Wharf Street in Cape Town’s bustling City Bowl district. Emergency services responded promptly to the distressing scene on.
An investigation has been launched by the local Police following the tragic incident.
Police spokesperson Captain F.C. Van Wyk noted that authorities are carefully examining the scene, with crime experts and Cape Town Central detectives working to piece together what may have led to the incident.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out to confirm the individual’s age, race, and the exact cause of death.
According to reports, the man fell from the 28th floor, where the Sky-HI ride an aerial attraction offering city views is located. It is said that he had purchased a ticket for the ride shortly before the fall.
Hotel Sky Cape Town managing director Paul Kelley expressed deep sadness over a tragic and isolated incident that took place at the hotel this afternoon (Monday) just before 4pm. A walk-in visitor sadly took his own life by jumping from the rooftop.
Kelley said the hotel is deeply saddened by this unexpected event, and our heartfelt condolences go to the family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Kelley stated that the unfortunate incident was not connected to the Sky-HI Ride, as the two areas are located separately within the building.
Road closures have been implemented as authorities continue their work at the scene. Commuters are advised to proceed with caution, as delays may occur.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes to avoid the affected area.
