(The Post News)– The 2025 BET Awards, hosted by Kevin Hart, took place on June 9 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, celebrating the biggest names in music, film, and sports. This year’s ceremony was a testament to the limitless talent and excellence within the Black community.
Music winners included Best Male Hip Hop Artist Kendrick Lamar, who dominated the night with four wins, including Album of the Year for “GNX” and Video of the Year for “Not Like Us.” Doechii continued her genre-bending rise with a win in her category, winning Best Female Hip Hop Artist.
While Best Female R&B/Pop Artist was awarded to SZA, who proved her artistry is still unmatched, Chris Brown won Best Male R&B/Pop Artist. Additionally, Kendrick Lamar and SZA took home the Best Collaboration for their soul-shaking track “Luther.”
Meanwhile, singer, songwriter, and former child actor Leon Thomas was named Best New Artist, and the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Award was given to GloRilla, Kirk Franklin, and Maverick City Music for “Rain Down on Me.”
 Film and television stars also came to shine, with Denzel Washington winning the Best Actor award, adding another trophy to his legendary career. Cynthia Erivo won Best Actress, while “Luther: Never Too Much,” a fan-favourite biopic, won the Best Movie Award.
The awards ceremony also honoured men and women in sports. Angel Reese, a basketball player, walked away with the Sportswoman of the Year title, and Jalen Hurts, QB1 and fan favourite, earned the title of Sportsman of the Year for his performance and leadership in the NFL.
Moreover, the ceremony also witnessed rising stars being celebrated, with Blue Ivy Carter taking home the YoungStars Award, proving she’s the next icon in the making. During the award ceremony, several legends, including Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin, Mariah Carey, and Snoop Dogg, were honoured with the Ultimate Icon Award.
The BET Awards 2025 was a night to remember, celebrating the best of Black culture in music, film, sports, and more. With impressive performances and well-deserved wins, it was a truly unforgettable event.
