(The Post News)– India’s active Covid-19 case count has increased to 7,121, with 306 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
Unfortunately, six deaths were also recorded during this period, with Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra reporting fatalities. The deceased individuals had pre-existing health conditions that made them more vulnerable to the virus.
The recent surge in Covid-19 cases in India is attributed to new variants, including LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1. Kerala is currently leading the country in terms of active cases, with 2,223 reported cases. Gujarat and Delhi are also experiencing a rise in cases, with 1,223 and 757 active cases, respectively.
Health experts are advising against a mass booster vaccination campaign, instead recommending a targeted approach that focuses on high-risk groups such as the elderly and immunocompromised individuals. They argue that the general public does not need additional vaccine doses at this time due to widespread hybrid immunity developed through prior infections and vaccinations.
The government has issued advisories to states and union territories, urging them to be prepared and vigilant in light of the rising Covid-19 cases. Medical professionals are emphasising the importance of distinguishing between Covid-19 and other seasonal viral fevers, which can have similar symptoms. Vulnerable individuals, such as senior citizens and those with underlying medical conditions, are advised to take precautions and seek medical care if symptoms develop or worsen.
The Indian Medical Association is stressing the need for preventive measures to curb the spread of Covid-19. These measures include wearing masks, practising good hygiene, and avoiding crowded places. By taking these precautions, individuals can help reduce the transmission of the virus and protect themselves and others from infection.
