Mduduzi Mnisi accused of murdering 14 years old Likhona Fose made his second court appearance at the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Wednesday
(The Post News)- Durban Deep community picked outside Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Wednesday as the 39 year old Mduduzi Mnisi accused of murdering 14 year old Likhona Fose appeared before the court, whose mulited body was found on a veld in Durban Deep, Roodepoort.
The courtroom was packed with Durban Deep residents, as the accused was making his second court appearance.
The court heard that the accused has been previously convicted of attempted murder and robbery, which he had committed in 2007. He currently has no pending cases.
Mnisi has indicated that he intends to apply for bail, but the state indicated that it aims to oppose the application.
Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwana said they have already started with investigations to prepare for the bail application, as they are preparing themselves of opposing Mnisi’s bail application.
Speaking on the impact this kind of incident has on communities Mjonondwana said “this is a chilling reminder of the need to the crimial justice system to speedy deal with such cases, come up with strategies to address such violence.”
She further promised the country that the NPA will work hard to deliver justice for Likhona.
A community leader expressed his hurt at the way the accused behaved in court, as he would at times turn around to look at those who were in the gallery and he seemed to be smirking at them.
“I thought as he appeared today in court, Mdu will show remorse, if he is the one who committed this, but the way you see him laugh has deeply hurt us, and we hope the law play its part.” Said the leader
The case has been postponed to 18 June for bail application.
