(The Post News)- Residens of Samora Machel are in shock after a 15-year-old girl was shot and killed while walking to school on Wednesday morning, 11 June. No arrests have been made yet, but local police are continuing their search for the suspect involved in the fatal shooting.
Reports indicate that officers responded to a shooting complaint at the scene. Upon arrival, they found a female victim lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.
The teen girl was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel. The suspect or suspects fled the area.
It is believed that the young girl, a Grade 10 student at the nearby Zisukhanyo Secondary School, was deliberately targeted and sustained four gunshot wounds, according to various community news sources. The victim’s father identified his daughter’s body upon arriving at the scene.
Community members suspect that her killing may be connected to the murder of her 18-year-old boyfriend, which took place the day before.
The Department of Education has confirmed that counselling services will be made available to learners at the school to support them in coping with the trauma of losing a classmate.
