(The Post News)- Kanye West has once again ignited the internet as he reportedly changes his name for the second time since reintroducing himself as “Ye” in 2021, to now going by the name “Ye Ye”.
According to “Page Six” magazine, Hussein Lalani, the 48-year-old rapper’s chief financial officer, submitted legal documents to the California Secretary of State in Los Angeles Court for the name change. As of the 9th of June, West’s brands, particularly his productions Getting Out Dreams and Kreezy Record Label, as well as his fashion line Yeezy Apparel, all refer to him as “Ye Ye” in official documents.
Many have been left confused by Kanye’s sudden change of heart, given that in a 2018 interview with radio host Big Boy he expressed that the reason that he initially wanted to change his name to “Ye” was because of its Biblical significance meaning “You”, claiming that he wanted a name that “felt with the energy”.
In March of 2024, Milo Yiannopoulos, his chief of staff, even sent out a letter demanding that people stop referring to the award-winning rapper by his “slave name”, that being his birth name, because ‘Ye’ is recognized even by people of importance, and “on par with popes and presidents”. In addition, on the 1st of June, he took to the X platform that he would retire his original account @kanyewest because “[his] name is Ye
.
This name change is noted to come after the backlash surrounding his music video for “Heil Hitler”, which contains explicit lyrics about Bianca Censori, his wife, and about the strained relationship he has with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. Although the rapper has not confirmed anything himself, many have taken the news lightly, making jokes regarding the stability of his mental state. Others have made speculations that this is Kanye’s attempt to make a debut in the Chinese Market.
