(The Post News)– The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng has denied allegations that a second individual has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of 14-year-old Likhona Fose.
This clarification comes after Johannesburg Community Safety MMC, Dr Mgcini Tshwaku, alleged in a televised interview last night that a Pakistani spaza shop owner had been apprehended as a second suspect.
Today, Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, clarified the situation, stating that only one suspect, Mduduzi Mnisi, is currently in custody unless the second suspect is detained elsewhere. He emphasised that as of now, they have only apprehended one suspect and “the case is remanded.”
Likhona Fose was a 14-year-old Grade 8 student whose body was found in an open field near her home in the Durban Deep area of Roodepoort. The body showed signs of severe mutilation, with her genitals, parts of her knees, and a portion of her nose removed, prompting the police to involve a specialised occult-crime investigation unit.
Meanwhile, the case remains under active investigation.
