(The Post News)- Major General Philani Lushaba, the Chief Financial Officer of the Crime Intelligence division, handed himself over to the police in Pretoria on Friday morning and was subsequently arrested. Lushaba is among three officers who have been arrested or have handed themselves over since Thursday in connection with a case of housebreaking and theft.
Lushaba had reported the theft of his official work laptop, state firearm, and cellphone, claiming that the burglary occurred while he was away. However, sources within Crime Intelligence allege that he had an encounter with a sex worker who later robbed him, information that was allegedly omitted from his original report.
The other senior officers arrested are believed to have assisted Lushaba in covering up the scandal and ensuring that criminal cases were lodged. The four officers are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
In addition to the sex burglary scandal, Lushaba is also under investigation for financial misconduct linked to properties worth over R45 million. He is suspected of misusing funds from the Secret Service Account, which is typically used to finance covert operations and pay informants.
The case is being handled by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).
