(The Post News)– Kagiso Rabada silenced critics with a stellar performance on Day 1 of the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, taking 5/51 in 15.4 overs as South Africa dismissed their opponents for 212.
His fiery spell came just weeks after the fast bowler served a temporary doping ban following alleged cocaine use. Rabada was tested during the SA20 and accepted a one-month suspension without contest. The incident also forced him to exit the IPL early, citing “personal reasons” at the time.
When asked post-match if the controversy had given him extra motivation, Rabada said, “It wasn’t my best moment. But life moves on. I didn’t try to give more or less effort than I usually do for South Africa. I just tried to do my best today.”
Captain Temba Bavuma acknowledged the situation in a press conference, saying the team had addressed it internally. “He had a conversation with us and opened the floor for questions. As far as we’re concerned, it’s behind us,” he said.
“He’s in the best shape he’s ever been. And playing Australia gives him that extra motivation. I think he’s in a very good space.”
Rabada’s five-wicket haul not only reaffirmed his status as South Africa’s pace spearhead but also set the tone for a high-stakes clash, with the Proteas chasing their first WTC title.
