The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed that a Grade 11 learner from Lesedi Secondary School in Lethabong, located in Donkerhoek, Pretoria East, lost his life on Tuesday following a stabbing incident involving a Grade 12 student.
According to the department, the alleged perpetrator had not attended school that day and arrived on the premises as learners were preparing to board their scholar transport. He reportedly confronted the victim near the school entrance.
Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Chiloane emphasized that schools must remain environments of learning, safety, and hope not places where violence and brutality take root.
Chiloane further warned that learners must consider the serious repercussions of violent behavior, stating: “Learners must understand violence has life-altering consequences. Such actions will not only remove you from the classroom but may place you behind bars.” He added.
