(The Post News)- Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for Iran’s “unconditional surrender,” warning that any American military intervention would be met with fierce resistance and cause irreparable damage. In a statement read on Iranian state television on Wednesday, Khamenei said the Iranian nation would never yield to threats, and that peace or war could not be dictated to Iran by foreign powers. He insisted that “intelligent people who know Iran, the Iranian nation, and its history will never speak to this nation in threatening language, because the Iranian nation will not surrender.”
Khamenei’s warning came in direct response to a flurry of inflammatory tweets by President Trump, who said the United States was prepared for full-scale action against Iran and knew the exact location of Khamenei, adding that Washington was “holding off for now.” In one of the tweets, Trump demanded Tehran’s unconditional surrender, prompting immediate backlash from Iranian officials and the Supreme Leader himself. Reacting to Trump’s online threats, Khamenei warned that the Islamic Republic would show no restraint toward Israel, referring to it in his social media response as the “Zionist regime,” and said Iran “will show the Zionist regime no mercy” in the event of continued aggression.
The verbal exchange comes amid a dramatic military escalation in the region. Last week, Israel launched a series of airstrikes against Iranian nuclear and missile infrastructure, citing an imminent existential threat. Iran responded with waves of ballistic missiles targeting Israeli cities and military installations, prompting the United States to enhance its regional defences and intercept some of the incoming attacks. Although the United States has not yet engaged in direct strikes, its military presence in the region has been significantly increased.
Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, condemned Trump’s threats as reckless and said they would be included in Iran’s strategic assessments. He also accused Israel of committing acts of war against humanity by deliberately targeting nuclear facilities, warning that the international community’s silence was enabling the risk of environmental catastrophe. The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that the Israeli strikes hit the Natanz and Isfahan facilities, although it reported no current radiation leaks outside the affected sites.
