Rapper, singer, and songwriter Doja Cat has landed herself in yet another social media debate as she took to ‘X’ to address a fan reportedly ‘manhandled’ her after a trending video on TikTok circulated.
In the video posted by the fan, Pablo Tamayo, we see him enthusiastically taking off his shirt and handing it to Doja because “she’s the iconic girl”. The exchange between the two appears to be warm and responsive, as the rapper is all smiles as she accepts the shirt and hugs and kisses the fan back when he embraces her. She even goes to the extent of complimenting his fragrance. However, the interaction may not have been as lighthearted as fans seem to think.
In a string of now-deleted X threads, Doja opened up to feeling uncomfortable with the interaction. When fans asked why she seemed happy in the video, she replied and said that just because she ‘smiles’ at someone doesn’t mean she messes or ‘knows’ them enough to ‘touch’ or ‘manhandle’ her. She further expressed how she felt that Tamayo violated her personal space when he reached in for a hug without having even learned her name.
Tamaya quickly took to TikTok to clear the air and let people know that it was never his intention to make the rapper feel uncomfortable. He says that Doja Cat told him that she liked his ‘hot boys kiss boys’ shirt, and out of love and admiration, he gave it to her. Although he voiced out his heart over the misunderstanding, and how the rapper threw out what she now calls his ‘musty shirt’, tomorrow took full accountability for his lack of caution.
Fans have since called Doja Cat out for hating her fans and saying that her tweets are ‘uncalled for’. Furthermore, they have sympathised with Tamayo, telling him that he shouldn’t have to apologise for being ‘too nice’.
