(The Post News)– World No. 1 Nelly Korda heads into the Women’s PGA Championship with renewed determination following a painful near miss at the US Women’s Open earlier this month. The 26-year-old American, who led for much of the tournament, had to settle for second place after late errors allowed Sweden’s Maja Stark to clinch her maiden major title.
Korda described the loss as “a heartbreaker” but said the experience has only deepened her drive. Having first played the US Open at 14, it’s a title she’s long chased, and this was the closest she’s come to claiming it.
Now teeing off at Fields Ranch East in Texas, Korda says she’s focused on turning that disappointment into fuel. “I hate making mistakes, but I love the feeling of being in contention,” she said ahead of Thursday’s round. “You don’t win often in this game, so moments like that just make you work harder. A few weeks later, I’m choosing to see it as motivation.”
Despite a dominant 2024 that saw her win seven times, including the Chevron Championship, Korda is still hunting her first title of 2025. She’ll look to change that at PGA Frisco’s 6,604-yard layout.
Meanwhile, Stark, still absorbing her breakthrough US Open win, admitted it hasn’t fully hit her. With a $2.4 million payday now in the bank, she revealed she hasn’t spent a cent. “I’m happy with what I already had,” she said with a smile.
