(The Post News)– Following a 2–1 ODI series victory over the West Indies, the Proteas Women shift their focus to the T20 format as they prepare for a three-match series starting Friday, 20 June, at the Three Ws Oval in Barbados. With a World Cup year underway, building and sustaining momentum has become a central theme.
Allrounder Annerie Dercksen, who played in all three ODIs, stressed the value of maintaining a winning mindset regardless of format. Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Thursday, she said that each match matters, especially with the 50-over World Cup on the horizon and the T20 World Cup not far behind in June next year. Dercksen noted that coach Mandla Mashimbyi and his team are likely using this series to test potential World Cup combinations.
“We never take a series lightly,” she added, making it clear the team is treating the T20Is with full intent.
Reflecting on her form, Dercksen acknowledged the contrast between her recent performance in Sri Lanka, where she scored her maiden ODI century, and her current run in the Caribbean. She attributed the difference to changing match situations and tougher batting conditions but remains upbeat.
“It’s a funny game,” she said. “Sometimes all it takes is for a few things to go your way, and you’re right back in rhythm.”
With a confident squad and eyes on two World Cups, the Proteas Women are ready to take on the next challenge.
