34-Year-Old Man Arrested for Alleged Rape in Thabong

(The Post News)- A 34-year-old man was taken into custody in Thabong on Sunday, 22 June 2025, after members of the Welkom Public Order Police (POP) received information regarding his whereabouts following allegations of rape.

According to a SAPS media statement, the information was acted upon and led officers to a residence in New Stands, Thabong. Upon arrival, they encountered a man loitering in the yard who, when questioned about the suspect’s whereabouts, told police that the individual was not present.

During a search of the property, officers came across a woman concealed in an outside toilet, who claimed the suspect had left the premises. However, a closer inspection led them to a locked outbuilding, where the suspect was ultimately discovered in hiding. Police then forced entry into the room and apprehended the 34-year-old male suspect in connection with a rape case.

A 34-year-old man was arrested for rape, a woman aged 29 was taken into custody for allegedly obstructing the course of justice, while a 41-year-old man was arrested for violating immigration laws. The trio now face multiple charges and are expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court in due course.
