(The Post News)- A Western Cape couple, aged 47 and 48, has had more charges added to their case in connection with alleged sexual offences against their two daughters, aged 3 and 8. The couple from Bloubergstrand made their second court appearance, where the additional charges were presented.
The couple initially faced charges of rape, sexual assault, production of child pornography, and sexual grooming. However, the charges have now increased to 25, including allegations of rape and other offenses under the Sexual Offences Act of 2007. The attorney representing the couple, William Booth, has requested the state to provide him with the evidence against his clients, stating that they will plead not guilty when the time comes.
The couple was arrested approximately two weeks ago at a residence identified through investigative efforts. A multidisciplinary team, including members of the SAPS, the Department of Social Development, and the FBI, conducted the operation. Several electronic devices were seized during the arrest, including an iPhone and a MacBook that still require decryption.
The victims, who have been placed in a safe environment, are receiving the support and protection they need. The SAPS has emphasized the importance of protecting children from abuse and exploitation, and the investigation is ongoing to gather all relevant evidence.
