(The Post News)- US President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Iran have agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire,” though neither country has confirmed the deal, following escalating tensions that included an Iranian missile strike on a US airbase in Qatar on Monday in retaliation for attacks on its nuclear facilities.
Trump indicated that Israel and Iran may have a window to complete ongoing operations before the ceasefire begins, which is expected to be implemented in a phased manner.
US President Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said, “Congratulations everyone! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total ceasefire (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in-progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ended! Officially, Iran will start the ceasefire, and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the ceasefire and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official end to the 12-day-war will be saluted by the World.”
Trump’s announcement outlines a phased winding down of hostilities, stating that “upon the 24th hour” the war will officially end.
The US president refers to the recent Israel-Iran conflict as “The 12 Day War.” In his Truth Social post, Trump stated, “This is a war that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t and never will!”
