(The Post News)- A cold front is expected to bring snowfall and gusty winds to the Eastern Cape, adding to the region’s ongoing weather challenges.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has cautioned that a cold front will move across the Eastern Cape, bringing snowfall and unsettled conditions. Moderate to strong winds, reaching gale-force in some areas, are anticipated over the province’s interior on Wednesday and Thursday, possibly adding strain to an already weather-impacted region.
SAWS noted that following the cold front’s passage, a high-pressure system will build in behind it, leading to significantly colder conditions across parts of the province between Thursday and Friday.
Light to moderate snowfall is likely over elevated northern areas of the province on Thursday, with accumulations estimated between 1 and 5 centimeters.
The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 2 Yellow warning for damaging winds and high waves along the coastline between Plettenberg Bay and East London. Additionally, the same warning has been issued for the Senqu and Elundini local municipalities.
The Eastern Cape province is still grappling with severe weather and widespread flooding earlier this month, which caused an estimated 100 deaths and left thousands of families homeless.
