(The Post News)– Showmax is paying tribute to Amapiano star Kabza De Small, highlighting his pivotal role in taking the homegrown genre to the global stage.
Widely recognized as a pioneer of Amapiano, Kabza De Small began his journey in the townships armed with just a laptop and a dream. His early beats would go on to shape a sound that defined a generation of South African music.
The Imithandazo hitmaker described the international recognition he has received as a humbling experience.
Kabza shared that collaborating with a homegrown platform like Showmax allows Amapiano’s story to be told with authenticity and cultural integrity.
According to Kabza, without anticipating its eventual globalisation, Amapiano began as something authentic and unadulterated, created in the centre of eKasi. He also expressed that it is heartwarming to witness people from all nations dancing, interacting, and even singing in South African languages.
He emphasized that working with a local platform like Showmax is key to sharing Amapiano’s story in a genuine and authentic way. “When we work with platforms that understand our culture, our slang, our vibes, the story becomes more authentic,” he explained.
Kabza further noted that Showmax is dedicated to sharing authentic stories and preserving the true spirit of Amapiano, honouring its origins and the community it belongs to. This support enables artists to stay genuine, celebrate their people, and ensure their legacy is told from their perspective, without outside filters that don’t understand their roots.
