KZN Premier hands over a drone to the community in Manguzi to aid in crime prevention and monitoring
(The Post News)- Earlier today, the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, accompanied by the MEC for Agriculture, Thembeka Madlopha Mthethwa, donated a drone in Manguzi and assessed the community’s living conditions. The area has been plagued by numerous car hijackings, illegal border crossings, and stock theft, largely due to its proximity to the Mozambique and Swaziland borders.
The premier handed over a drone to the community, which will be used to monitor the situation and aid in crime prevention. During the visit, the premier emphasized the importance of collaboration between border management, police, and the community to bring an end to the rampant crime in the area. The region’s vulnerability to human trafficking, particularly of children with albinism, was a significant concern.
The premier’s initiative aims to address these issues and ensure the safety of the community. A recent incident where 20 stolen motor vehicles from South Africa were recovered by Mozambican police highlights the severity of the situation. A local community member, who wished to remain anonymous, alleged that some South African police officers are complicit in transporting stolen cars, further exacerbating the problem. The premier’s visit and drone donation are seen as steps towards addressing these concerns and improving security in the region.
