(The Post News)- The day has arrived for South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan to face a step-aside motion during the highly anticipated SAFA Congress taking place in Sandton, Johannesburg.
The motion, brought forward by four regional bodies, argues that Jordaan should temporarily step down from his leadership role due to his ongoing court cases.
In 2024, Jordaan was arrested and charged with fraud. He was subsequently released on bail, but the legal proceedings have cast a shadow over his continued role as SAFA president.
Despite the motion, Jordaan retains significant backing from the SAFA National Executive Committee and the majority of the 52 regional structures within the association.
The SAFA Congress, originally scheduled for 2024 was delayed multiple times. The first postponement followed Jordan’s arrest. A rescheduled date in May 2025 was later pushed back again due to financial constraints. It is only now that the congress proceeding.
