Missing one-week-old Mogamat Imaad Shamar found safe in a Tafelsig home.
(The Post News)– Community groups are on the lookout as police have launched an urgent investigation after a nine-day-old baby Mogamat Imaad Sharmar was kidnapped from Middestad Mall in Bellville, Cape Town, on Saturday, 28 June 2025.
The Bellville Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit confirmed that Baby Sharmar’s abduction happened when the mother, who had visited the mall with her newborn and another individual, began feeling unwell and went to the bathroom.
She left her baby in the care of the person accompanying her; when she returned, both the individual and Baby Sharmar were gone. According to Smile FM, police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that authorities are investigating the case as a suspected kidnapping. However, the investigation is still ongoing, and no motives have been identified yet.
Community crime groups have circulated a photo of the missing infant to raise awareness. Police have also urged the public to assist in the investigation and report any information that may help locate the baby.
