(The Post News)- Jake Paul made light work of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on Saturday night, cruising to a dominant unanimous decision win in their cruiserweight showdown in California. The social media star-turned-boxer controlled the 10-round contest from the first bell, outpacing the 39-year-old Mexican veteran.
In what was Paul’s 13th professional fight, the 28-year-old showed poise and precision, overwhelming Chavez Jr, son of Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, who looked out of sorts throughout. Chavez Jr failed to land a single punch in the opening round and struggled to make any impact for the remainder of the bout.
All three judges scored comfortably in Paul’s favour, with scorecards reading 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93.
The fight follows Paul’s headline-making stint with Mike Tyson last year, a controversial exhibition against the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion. That event, staged for Netflix, reportedly earned Paul a staggering $40 million (R712 million). While Saturday’s guaranteed purse was a modest $300,000 (R5.34 million), Paul is expected to pocket between $8–10 million (R142.4–178 million) after pay-per-view and sponsorship earnings are tallied. Though critics continue to debate the legitimacy of Paul’s boxing career, the numbers, and the performances, speak for themselves. With each outing, he’s adding experience, revenue, and increasingly dominant results.
