(The Post News)- The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) National Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela has branded the arrest of Brian Molefe and Siyabonga Gama as a political witch-hunts against black intellectuals.
Molefe and Gama, both former Transnet board members were arrested on Monday 1 July 2025, in connection with the R400 million bribes allegedly linked with the Guptas in 2012.
“While the MK Party remains committed to the principle that justice must be administered without fear, favour or prejudice, we are compelled to speak out against what is becoming an unmistakable selective prosecution and politically motivated prosecution,” Ndlela states.
Ndlela said they reject the notion that these arrest were only acts of genuine pursuit of justice, and claim that they were part of broader campaigns that undermines and criminalise black intellectuals associated with MK Party.
The spokesperson likened Molefe and Gama’s arrests with the MK Party Leader Jacob Zuma’s detainment, citing that Zuma has always been subjected to unjust treatment and legal harassment.
“President Zuma remains a primary target of captured justice system more interested in political vandettas than in upholding fairness or the rule of law,” he said.
Ndlela blamed the justice system of the country, saying that it has dragged Zuma in endless court proceedings, while constantly failing to apply the same pattern to certain politically connected individuals. He also added that the “two-tiered approach” may reflect negatively on the country’s morrals and constitution.
Ndlela also mentioned that they are disturbed by “hostile” treatment received by MK Party Members Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane and Advocate Dali Mpofu, highlighting that they are victimised for standing up against injustice and defending constitutional principles. He said, this is all part of a systematic purge against those who challenges certain politically connected individuals.
Moreover, Ndlela pointed out what he deemed as failure of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to uphold principles of impartial justice, saying that their judgements are influenced by external politics.
“The MK Party has consistently called for accountability, not only within state-owned enterprises, but also with institutions like NPA, which must be held to the highest standards of integrity,” he added.
Ndlela said the time has come for the restoration of state institution, and called upon all civil society and progressive forces to join them in rejecting what he described as the culture of selective justice.
