(The Post News)- Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Kaylin Swart believes it’s time for South Africa’s African champions to turn the page and “write a new book” as they return to Morocco for the 2024/25 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon), backed by long-time supporters Sasol.
The reigning champions are back on Moroccan soil for the first time since lifting the Wafcon title in 2022, and while the setting has shifted from Rabat to Casablanca, the energy feels familiar. “We have amazing memories from our last time here,” said Swart after a training session. “It feels good to be back. Hopefully, that winning spirit travels with us.”
The squad is currently putting in the final touches in Casablanca before moving to Oujda, their tournament base camp. For Swart, this campaign is about more than defending a title, it’s about starting a fresh chapter. “It won’t be easy, but maybe 2024 is shaping up to be another great chapter for us,” she said.
Banyana’s preparations included a friendly against Benin on Saturday, 28 June. With kick-off now just days away, Swart says the focus is on “fine-tuning the details so we’re ready when the whistle blows.”
There was a boost to the squad with the arrival of forward Jermaine Seoposenwe, who begins training on Sunday. Only Kgaelebane Mohlakoana remains absent, due to club duties, but is expected to join soon.
South Africa will face Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania in Group C.
