(The Post News)- A major law enforcement operation on Tuesday, 1 July 2025, led to the arrest of three City of Tshwane officials linked to the theft of a transformer valued at R7 million.
The suspects allegedly stole vital infrastructure from the Laudium Substation, worsening power cuts in a community already plagued by persistent outages. City officials stated that the incident marks a serious setback in Tshwane’s efforts to restore stability to its fragile electricity network.
According to a statement from the South African Police Service, three individuals were arrested in connection with the alleged theft of a high-voltage transformer. The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 2 July 2025.
The investigation remains active, and law enforcement officials have indicated that additional arrests may follow as new information comes to light.
Major General Samuel Thine, Tshwane District Commissioner, expressed appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the police team tackling crimes against essential infrastructure.
He emphasized law enforcement’s ongoing commitment to disrupt criminal networks responsible for these activities, which pose serious risks to South Africa’s economic wellbeing.
