(The Post News)– A severe heatwave has been sweeping across Europe since late June 2025, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. The extreme temperatures have resulted in at least 8 confirmed deaths and widespread public health risks. The heatwave has also sparked wildfires, disrupted infrastructure, and raised economic concerns.
In Spain, a devastating wildfire in the eastern region of Catalonia claimed 2 lives and ravaged approximately 40 km² of land. The country’s June temperatures were the highest on record, with some areas reaching scorching temperatures of over 46°C. Portugal also experienced similar extreme heat.
France has reported 2 heat-related deaths, and over 300 people have been hospitalized due to heat stress. The government has taken measures to mitigate the effects, including closing 1,350 schools nationwide and shutting down the summit of the iconic Eiffel Tower. The national meteorological agency has issued red heat alerts across several regions.
