(The Post News)- South Africa will be without their captain and key spinner, Keshav Maharaj, for the second Test against Zimbabwe after he picked up a left groin strain while batting on day three of the first match. The injury has forced Maharaj to return home for further assessment.
In his absence, Wiaan Mulder will take over the captaincy for the second Test, which gets underway on Saturday, 6 July at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. Left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy has been called up as Maharaj’s replacement.
Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, who was originally scheduled to link up with the squad this week, has been released from the team. The move gives South Africa’s pace attack, which played a crucial role in their dominant 328-run win in the first Test, another chance to shine.
Mulder leads a youthful, energetic side as they look to wrap up the two-match series. The squad includes the likes of Dewald Brevis, Corbin Bosch and Matthew Breetzke, alongside experienced names like Kyle Verreynne and Zubayr Hamza.
South Africa will be hoping to build on the momentum of their commanding first Test performance, where Corbin Bosch starred with both bat and ball.
