Five people have lost their lives, including two police officers, in a horrific accident along the N3, just after the Mariannhill Toll Plaza between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. This incident took place when a reckless Polo driver caused the accident on the N3. A minibus taxi carrying 17 passengers, traveling to Ixopo, veered off the road and rolled down 50 meters down the embankment on the off-ramp at eShongweni.
Truck drivers who witnessed the accident have revealed that the taxi driver, who was trying to avoid the reckless Polo driver, lost control of his taxi. Traffic management and metro police from Durban are at the scene and will conduct an investigation.
KwaZulu-Natal spokesman for transport, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, says they will try to find the relatives of the deceased and wish to extend condolences.
