Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi addressed a media briefing in Durban, emphasizing that combating organized crime is a top priority for the KwaZulu-Natal police. Known for his strict and determined approach to policing, Mkhwanazi has been leading the charge against crime in the province.
Mkhwanazi expressed his unwavering commitment to tackling crime, stating, “I’m a police officer who understands the task at hand. When I joined the service, I knew what I signed up for… I will die for this badge; I will fight until the end, whatever the end is.” This resolute stance underscores his dedication to protecting the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Provincial Police Commissioner also highlighted the issue of political killings in the province, alleging that some government ministers are involved, which has hindered the arrest of perpetrators. Specifically, Mkhwanazi mentioned the current Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, and his associates, claiming they have links to criminal elements. These allegations have significant implications for the province’s law enforcement and governance.
Mkhwanazi further alleged that there is a plot to remove Director-General Masemola and dismantle the task team investigating political killings. According to him, certain politicians and police generals are facilitating this plot at the behest of crime syndicates. The police will not only focus on chasing criminals in townships but also target high-level crime syndicates and their top members.
