(The Post News)- The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) celebrated a court victory against Mary Phadi at the Mpumalanga High Court on Tuesday, 8 July, and claimed to be the only hope for change despite internal strifes.
Phadi is the former MK Party convenor for the Mpumalanga Province. She has been with the party since its formal inception in December 2023. With remarkable achievements she has done for the party during elections, leading it to nine legislator seats, her relationship with the party turned sour after the national leadership appointed the former public protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane as the new Mpumalanga leader.
Phadi’s MK Party membership was terminated on 27 February this year for bringing the party into disrepute. She then took the party to court, however the court ruling favoured the party by dismissing her application with costs.
Reacting to the court ruling, MK Party celebrated the victory saying the judge affirmed their decision to appoint Advocate Mkhwebane as the Provincial Convenor,as announced by its leader President Zuma on 25 October 2024. They said the ruling will bring much needed stability within the Party ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.
“Ms.Phadi even failed to prove her membership in the MK Party when legally challenged to do so.She is now back to being an ordinary South African, with no links to the MK Party,” MK Party said.
Furthermore, the MK Party asserted that they are the only hope for change despite “understandable” internal teething problems.
“The MK Party remains the fastest growing Party in South Africa and holds the proud historical record for unseating the sellout African National Congress (ANC) of Ramaphosa from power. The next goal is to achieve the long-sought unity of all progressive forces: the only path to true liberation and decolonisation.Only through unity can the evil DA-ANC coalition be defeated,” the party stated.
Meanwhile, MK Party member Bonginkosi Khanyile, a prominent figure related to the 2021 July unrest appeared at the Durban Magistrates Court on Tuesday 8 July.
Khanyile is accused of having influenced the public violence in parts of KwaZulu-Natal(KZN) and was also charged for breaking COVID-19 lockdown regulations when he addressed hundreds of people in the Durban CBD.
Khanyile was calling for the release of Former President Zuma who was detained for contempt of court, and the state argued that he instigated violence. The case will take five days with the final verdict expected on Friday, 11 July 2025.
