(The Post News)- The National Intervention Unit has been deployed to safeguard the Durban residence of KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, sparking curiosity among locals. Hefty security measures were put in place following General Mkhwanazi’s bold statement about being willing to lay down his life for the truth.
On Tuesday, heavily armed officers from the National Intervention Unit were stationed outside General Mkhwanazi’s property in an upscale Durban suburb. An SUV and a VW Golf 7 were among the vehicles parked outside, with some taking up space on the pavement. A nearby business owner expressed concern over the sudden surge in police presence, questioning the officers about their mission. However, the officers remained tight-lipped, responding lightheartedly.
The Xolani Khumalo Foundation has publicly expressed its unwavering support for General Mkhwanazi, echoing concerns about the country’s alarming crime rates. These high levels of crime not only jeopardize citizens’ safety but also tarnish South Africa’s reputation as a tourist destination and hinder economic growth.
During a media briefing on Sunday, General Mkhwanazi proclaimed his unwavering commitment to upholding the law, stating, “I chose to be a police officer, and in many years of my career, I have been involved in combat.” This declaration underscores his readiness to face danger head-on in the line of duty.
