Mduduzi Mnisi, accused of the premeditated murder of 14-year-old Likhona Fose, was granted bail of R5,000 by the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court.
Mnisi was arrested following allegations that he was the last person seen with the teenager before her disappearance. A witness reported seeing the two together on the day Likhona went missing, prompting his arrest on charges of premeditated murder.

The State opposed bail, highlighting Mnisi’s previous convictions for attempted murder and robbery. They also said he broke his parole by not being in Durban Deep, where he was supposed to be at the time of the murder, which demonstrated he could not be trusted to comply with bail terms
Despite these concerns, the court ruled that the existing evidence was insufficient to justify keeping Mnisi in custody. The magistrate emphasized that while his criminal history and parole breach were serious, they did not, on their own, warrant pretrial detention in the absence of stronger evidence directly linking him to the teen’s death.
The case is scheduled to return to court on Friday as investigations continues.
