(The Post News)– President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to deliver a national address on Sunday, 13 July. The Presidency confirmed that Ramaphosa will be speaking on the allegations recently made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi laid criminal charges against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, accusing him of misconduct and interference in police operation. These allegations have drawn widespread criticism of the justice system and the national government. Mkhwanazi made additional claims against Mchunu, suggesting links to controversial figures such as Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, who faces disturbing criminal charges but reportedly remains politically protected while benefiting from lucrative SAPS contracts.
Moreover, Mkhwanazi alleged that Deputy National Commissioner Lt. Gen. Shadrack Sibiya hindered justice, stalled investigations into higher-profile killings and organized crime. According to Mkhwanazi, Sibiya shielded politically connected suspects by handling more than 120 sensitive dockets. Mkhwanazi said that was done without the authority of the national or provincial commissioner.
Meanwhile, the presidency said Ramaphosa had been dealing with the matter upon his return from Brazil; he has consulted with several stakeholders and will now “take the nation into his confidence” during his national address.
