President Donald Trump speaks at a White House event, expressing frustration over talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin
(The Post News)- The US President, Donald Trump, commented that he is tired of the meaningless “b*” from his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in talks about the Ukraine conflict. He added that extra sanctions could be on the table.
Trump has shifted his stance lately, especially on Tuesday. After expressing dissatisfaction for several days with his latest phone call with Putin, Trump escalated the situation at a Cabinet meeting. He suggested the man he had vouched for and spent years suspiciously avoiding criticizing might not be a reliable interlocutor.
“We get a lot of bullsh*t thrown at us by Putin, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said. “He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless.”
Last year in October, he said he had warned Putin not to invade Ukraine. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, he claims he said, “I’m going to hit you right in the middle of fricking Moscow. I said, ‘We’re friends. I don’t want to do it, but I have no choice.’ He goes, ‘No way.’ I said, ‘Way.'”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has consistently called on Western nations to tighten sanctions against Russia to force the Kremlin to agree to a ceasefire as a step towards reaching an end to the war, now 40 months old.
The Pentagon’s move to pause certain weapon shipments to Ukraine drew concerns from Kyiv recently, that the move would weaken its ability to defend against Russia’s intensifying airstrikes and battlefield advances. Trump, who was positioned alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, was asked on Tuesday who had ordered that pause. “I don’t know. Why don’t you tell me?” Trump responded.
