(The Post News)- Authorities have launched an investigation after four people were gunned down inside a home in Bishop Lavis on Friday night. The South African Police Service (SAPS) and community members suspect it may be linked to the recent surge of gang violence across the Cape Flats area.
According to SAPS, the shooting occurred around 19:15 at a residence on Reënberg Street. Two unidentified gunmen reportedly entered the home, made their way into a bedroom, and opened fire on four victims. All four were declared dead at the scene, having sustained gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.
Preliminary reports reveal that the victims were two men and two women, aged between 27 and 80 years old. Their relations to one another have not yet been confirmed. This report also reveals that the suspects fled the scene in a VW Polo.
The Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Investigations Unit and the SAPS Anti-Gang Unit have been assigned to the four-count murder case. No arrests have been made, and investigations into the motive and identity of the shooters are ongoing.
Community leaders have condemned the incident, calling it another example of the gang violence gripping the Cape Flats, especially in recent weeks.

Graham Lindhorst, Chairperson of the Bishop Lavis Community Police Forum (BLCPF), has sent his condolences and renews calls for peace and justice. He also requests the return of two senior officers who were transferred out of the precinct last year, insisting their removal has left a gap in local policing efforts.
Lindhorst adds, “Our community continues to suffer under the weight of violent crime. We need experienced officers back on the ground and a clear plan from SAPS to tackle the escalating gang activity.”.
The SAPS has urged anyone with information regarding the Bishop Lavis shooting or the gang violence to come forward.
