(The Post News)– A 46-year-old Gauteng police sergeant stationed at Olievenhoutbosch was arrested on Friday for allegedly attempting to murder his girlfriend by setting her home on fire in Lyden village, Polokwane, Limpopo.
According to an SAPS media statement, the officer arrived at his girlfriend’s residence around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. After receiving no response at the door, he allegedly set fire to the curtains, causing the small two-room home to burn down. The girlfriend sustained injuries but was rescued by neighbors, who alerted the police and emergency services.
Authorities later located the officer, who is scheduled to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 July 2025. He will face charges of attempted murder and arson.
Provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe praised officers for their prompt response.
