The Post News)– Music mogul Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter is once again confronting a paternity lawsuit, as Rymir Satterthwaite (31) persists in his decade-long assertion that the rapper is his biological father.
Satterthwaite’s latest federal complaint, filed in May 2025, not only reiterates his paternity claim but also details what he describes as a pervasive fallout since his mother first sought a paternity test. This new development emerges amidst recent legal challenges for Jay-Z, including his prior involvement in, and subsequent dismissal from, a civil suit refiled against Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Rymir Satterthwaite’s belief in Jay-Z’s paternity stems from his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, who was reportedly 16 when she allegedly had a relationship with Jay-Z in the early 1990s. Despite his mother’s passing in 2019, Rymir’s quest for recognition has continued relentlessly. His godmother and caregiver, Lillie Collie, has been a steadfast supporter, herself claiming “unrelenting efforts by Jay-Z and his enablers to suppress the truth and silence those who dared to speak it.”
In his current lawsuit, filed without legal representation, Satterthwaite accuses Jay-Z of knowingly avoiding a paternity test and leveraging his celebrity status to silence him. He alleges “fraud,” “manipulation of the legal system,” and a pattern of “intimidation,” even claiming a terrifying incident where his car was shot six times, which he views as a direct “message intended to silence him.”
While he is not currently seeking back child support, Satterthwaite demands damages for emotional and psychological distress, anxiety, public embarrassment, and stress-induced health complications, citing these as consequences of the prolonged legal battle and the alleged “wrongful dismissal” of his past paternity suits. Notably, he claims New Jersey judges “conspired” with Jay-Z regarding his paternity for over ten years.
Jay-Z’s legal team has responded with a firm and consistent denial, labeling Satterthwaite’s lawsuit as “fabricated allegations” and the “latest chapter in a decades-long harassment campaign.” They maintain there is “no truth” to the claims and characterize the lawsuit as an “attempt to extort money,” accusing Satterthwaite’s prior legal counsel of seeking media attention over legitimate legal pursuit.
According to court documents, Jay-Z’s lawyers assert that similar allegations have been “addressed—and rejected—in multiple other courts,” and Satterthwaite’s “continued harassment… and disregard of those orders has already resulted in a contempt order.” They argue that the lawsuit is “based on falsehoods, not facts,” pointing out that previous cases against Jay-Z were dismissed due to plaintiffs’ refusal to be named and emphasizing that Jay-Z “has not been found to have any responsibility for the claims made.”
They have also suggested the lawsuit is a form of “blackmail” aimed at pressuring a settlement. Jay-Z informed the court he only became aware of the May 2025 filing on June 3 and has requested additional time to prepare his official response, stating an attempt to contact Satterthwaite’s caregiver for an extension was met with hostility.
The legal journey for Satterthwaite has been arduous, navigating various state courts and even attempting to reach the Supreme Court, with previous dismissals often attributed to jurisdictional issues or procedural hurdles. Despite these setbacks and the fact that another man on his birth certificate was excluded as the biological father via DNA testing, Rymir continues to accuse Jay-Z of “consistently refusing to submit to a DNA test.”
This persistent legal challenge contrasts with Jay-Z’s public image as a family man, married to Beyoncé since 2008, with whom he shares three children: Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir Carter. The paternity claims recently gained renewed public attention when Nicki Minaj controversially referenced Satterthwaite’s lawsuit in social media commentary about the rapper.
As of July 12, 2025, the federal judge has not yet ruled on Jay-Z’s motion to dismiss the latest lawsuit. The prolonged legal battle continues to unfold, leaving the truth about Rymir Satterthwaite’s paternity and the alleged judicial “conspiracy” subject to ongoing court proceedings.
