Jannik Sinner claimed his first Wimbledon title on Sunday, defeating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a thrilling final. The win marks a major milestone for the 23-year-old, who becomes the first Italian to lift the men’s singles trophy at the All England Club.
Sinner kept his composure after dropping the first set, gradually seizing control of the match and sealing victory just over three hours later. It was a moment of redemption for the world No. 1, who had suffered a heart-breaking loss to Alcaraz in the French Open final five weeks earlier.
With this win, Sinner now boasts four Grand Slam titles, pulling ahead in his growing rivalry with Alcaraz, who has five. Together, the two young stars have dominated recent majors, signalling a new era beyond Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.
Sinner, visibly emotional, called the moment a “dream come true” and praised Alcaraz for his talent and their respectful rivalry. He credited his team and supporters, saying lessons from his loss in Paris had fuelled this turnaround.
Alcaraz, who was aiming to become only the fifth man to win three Wimbledons in a row in the Open era, congratulated Sinner, saying the win was well deserved.
Sinner’s Wimbledon run included a dominant early campaign and a stunning semifinal win over Novak Djokovic. After years of near misses and injuries, the Italian’s persistence finally paid off spectacularly.
