R54m Drug Bust in Goodwood: Heroin & Tik Seized in Major Raid
(The Post News)– A major drug seizure in Goodwood, Cape Town, has led to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of narcotics valued at over R54 million.
On Sunday, 13 July 2025, at around 13:45, members of Operation Restore conducted a targeted search at a residence in Molteno Street, Goodwood. During the initial phase of the search, officers uncovered 6 kilograms of heroin hidden in a cupboard inside one of the rooms.
A 32-year-old Tanzanian national, identified as the occupant of the room, was taken into custody and is facing charges related to drug trafficking. The seized narcotics carry an estimated street value of close to R1 million.
The search continued into a second bedroom, where officers found an additional 100 grams of heroin, valued at approximately R16,000. This discovery resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old Burundi national, who is now facing charges related to drug possession. As officers processed the initial arrests, new information surfaced indicating that additional drugs might still be concealed on the property. Acting swiftly, the team extended their search to other areas of the house. This led to a major discovery in the roof space, where they recovered 145 kilograms of tik and a further 16 kilograms of heroin. The combined street value of this find is estimated at R53.3 million, raising the total value of drugs seized during the operation to approximately R54.3 million.
The case has since been assigned to the provincial Organized Crime Unit’s Narcotics Section for further investigation. The suspects are expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 15 July 2025.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt. Gen. (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile, praised the officers for their dedication and reaffirmed the commitment of law enforcement to reduce the impact of drug trafficking on communities across the province.
