Tiffany Nicole Meek appeared in court Monday for the murder of her 11-year-old son Jayden-Lee Meek.
(The Post News)– After days of speculation and growing outrage, it has now been confirmed that the “close family member” arrested in connection with the murder of 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek is his mother, Tiffany Nicole Meek (31).
On Monday, 14 July 2025, Tiffany made her first appearance at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court, facing a charge of murder. Courtroom witnesses described her as weeping uncontrollably in the dock during proceedings.
Jayden-Lee was reported missing in May 2025 after he failed to return home from school. He was later found unconscious and partially undressed on a staircase inside the Fleurhof apartment complex where he lived. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
Police reports Jayden-Lee had suffered several marks, though there were no visible signs of bleeding. Investigators believe he may have been assaulted shortly before his body was discovered, as his body was still warm and clean at the scene.
Last week, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the arrest of a close relative following a thorough investigation by the Florida SAPS detectives, assisted by the provincial investigative and tracking teams.
The arrest has shocked the Fleurhof community. Community activist Althea Cluff expressed both relief and heartbreak, saying the development raises even more troubling questions. She questions, “If it is a close relative who killed Jayden, how long was the abuse? Was this the first or last attempt? Was this a case of we went too far and killed him?” She added, “I am broken to the core. How can someone close to him do this? We live in a sick society.”
Before her arrest, Tiffany Meek had publicly criticized the police for alleged negligence in the case of Jayden-Lee. She added, “Jaydee was my life, and he will remain my life… I prayed, and I said, Thank you, God, for another year that I get to spend with my child, and now there are no more years. It stops here.”
Tiffany Nicole Meek remains in custody. The case has been postponed to 18 July 2025 for a possible bail application.
