(The Post News)– Dewald Brevis and debutant Rubin Hermann starred with the bat as South Africa claimed a commanding five-wicket win over Zimbabwe in Monday’s Tri-Series T20I encounter at Harare Sports Club.
Chasing 142 for victory, South Africa reached the target with 25 balls to spare, thanks to a game-changing 72-run stand between Brevis and Hermann. The win followed a disciplined bowling effort that held Zimbabwe to 141/6 on a tricky surface.
Hermann, making his international debut, steadied the innings with a composed 45 off 37 balls after early wickets had left South Africa wobbling at 38/3. Brevis then shifted the momentum completely with a blistering 41 off just 17 deliveries, which included a brutal 24-run over off Ryan Burl. He was later named Player of the Match. “We were under pressure early on, but I stuck to my game plan and kept it simple,” Brevis said after the match.
Earlier, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza led his side with an unbeaten 54, supported by Ryan Burl’s quick 29. Brian Bennett added 30 up front, but wickets at crucial moments stifled Zimbabwe’s charge.
George Linde was the pick of South Africa’s bowlers, claiming 3/10 in four overs, including a brilliant final over. Richard Ngarava stood out for Zimbabwe, taking 3/35 and becoming their all-time leading T20I wicket-taker. Despite Ngarava’s efforts, South Africa’s middle-order firepower proved too much, with Corbin Bosch (22) and Linde (4) finishing the chase with ease.
