(The Post News)– In a recent interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG, Advocate Malesela Teffo made a series of serious allegations linked to the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa murder case.
Teffo, who was previously part of the defense team in the high-profile trial, accused several prominent figures of corruption and misconduct. He alleged that some law enforcement officials in Gauteng are connected to drug cartels operating within the province.Â
Among the individuals named, Teffo alleged that former Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela is involved in drug trafficking. He further claimed that Mr. Mokobane, the acting head of Correctional Services, offered him R45 million to withdraw from the Meyiwa case. According to Teffo, he was called into Mokobane’s office on August 11, 2023, and told that he was the best lawyer and had a career. He further noted that Makobane questioned him about whether losing his life and career for someone who has passed on was worth it.
He also alleged that a powerful drug cartel operates in Johannesburg and is somehow connected to the Meyiwa case. According to Teffo, at least 11 individuals linked to this cartel have died under suspicious circumstances. He said he believes he is being targeted.
Teffo further accused unnamed politicians of trying to sabotage his legal career. He stated that he agrees with previous corruption allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkwanazi.
In addition, Teffo claimed he was wrongfully imprisoned for nine months in Kgosi Mampuru Prison. He alleged that certain members of the South African Police Service orchestrated his detention, intending for him to either die in custody or become mentally unfit to continue practicing law.
While incarcerated in December 2023, Teffo claimed he was poisoned after accepting a Chicken Licken meal from another inmate. He alleged the poison was slow-acting and said a doctor at Johannesburg Prison later confirmed this, leaving him with lasting damage to his hands.Â
Teffo also made controversial statements regarding the death of Senzo Meyiwa, the popular soccer player who was shot in 2014. He alleged that singer Kelly Khumalo accidentally shot Meyiwa while trying to hand over a firearm that had earlier been taken from Longwe Twala. According to Teffo, the gun discharged unintentionally, fatally wounding Meyiwa.Â
Additionally, he accused Advocate George Baloyi, the lead prosecutor in the case, of deliberately misleading the court to protect the firearm’s original owner. When asked why he believes he has survived despite the alleged deaths of others linked to the case, Teffo said, “I should have been the first person to die, but my God does not allow it to happen.”
At the time of publication, no official responses or confirmations from the parties mentioned were available. All allegations reported here were made publicly by Advocate Malesela Teffo during the Podcast and Chill with MacG interview and remain unverified.Â
