Growing suspicions of a possible transfer to Liverpool were fueled by Alexander Isak’s noteworthy absence from the Newcastle United team that flew to Glasgow to play Celtic on Saturday. The Magpies’ first pre-season game against the defending Scottish champions at Parkhead saw Celtic seal a 4-0 victory, as the 25-year-old Swedish striker was not available.
His exclusion occurs days after Newcastle allegedly rejected Liverpool’s £120 million offer. According to club insiders, the board is still firmly in favor of Eddie Howe’s wish to keep the forward, who is still a key component of the team’s ambitions for the upcoming season. Isak showed aggression and hunger in the current past season. He was the fire of Newcastle, putting pressure on the attacking side.
Newcastle is still in need of his services; however, there is other clubs’ interest. Despite their adamant position, Isak’s absence will probably feed rumors that Liverpool is looking to acquire attacking players this summer. Newcastle has not yet made an official statement regarding the player’s absence from the friendly match against Celtic.
